Here is the normal route:

1. Drive north on the I-35 frontage road to get away from the office.
2. Head north on I-35 past the University Blvd exit.
3. Exit toward CR 112 / Gattis School Rd and head east.
4. Continue east on Gattis School Rd and turn north onto Red Bud Ln toward the school campus.
5. You'll be in the neighborhoods east and west of Red Bud Ln as it passes the Cedar Ridge High School campus.

The trip takes about 12 to 15 minutes during a typical morning. There may be a few extra minutes added to that on mornings during rush hour, around the I-35 interchange. We build this traffic buffer into the move day schedule so we get here on time. And once we leave the highway, we're able to navigate the residential area around Cedar Ridge High neighborhoods quite easily. Most streets east of Red Bud Ln and the school are wide streets intended to serve modern suburban communities. They're built to deal with cul-de-sacs and have plenty of turnaround room. It's not unusual for us to turn around into the loop of the cul-de-sac to back up to a driveway.

It isn't uncommon that we keep an eye on the morning and afternoon school zone timing. The arrival and departure traffic creates congestion on Red Bud Ln and intersections within the neighborhood, and we need to work around that. When moving on a weekday during the school year, we try to schedule our arrival so we don't land there during pick up or drop off. Usually that means either we're off to the side of Red Bud Ln and unloading prior to 7:30 am, or we wait to arrive until after 8:15. It's a small thing, but it helps keep the morning smooth.

The neighborhoods surrounding the campus exist between Gattis School Rd to the south and AW Grimes Blvd to the east. You'll find roads like Sundance Kid Ln and Rawhide Trl winding through homes. There's a cluster of two-story built about 2008. They're newer areas, and homes have driveways made of concrete, along with attached garages, so we can often stage boxes and furniture in the garage without the need for blocking the street. This is helpful on hectic moving days.

One thing that may not be considered is if you are moving in a condo or HOA community. There are often certain rules in these communities about the location and time of your moving truck in their driveway. We've seen a fair amount of this, so we just keep our truck as close to the curb as possible and move quickly so no one is emailing the HOA manager.

It's a straightforward trip as well: just head west on Gattis School Road. Get on I-35 South, and you'll be here in a matter of minutes. Most of the homes in this part of Round Rock are relatively new (most being built around 2008), but don't think for a second that means a move to or from these homes is easy! These houses have their own unique quirks and we've certainly learned them all from years of moving in this area of Round Rock.

Usually a two-story house with an open concept floorplan. Sounds great, right? Well, it can be, at least downstairs, when you only have to walk down stairs to your garage or front door. But the main issue with these floorplans is the stairway itself. A lot of builders in Round Rock prefer tight turns at the top landing, which can lead to getting a big sectional or king-size bed up there feeling like a puzzle. We often tilt, turn, and sometimes take legs off of items to get around these issues. We're used to it, as we've moved many of these homes over the years.

A common scenario we have seen move to and from around this area near Cedar Ridge High School:

• Two story single-family homes with narrow stair landings and large upper game rooms with heavier furniture items
• Attached two-car garages full of boxes and household storage, with sports equipment and furniture that requires careful loading
• Vinyl plank and engineered hardwood floors, which can be scratched under boxes or sliding pads
• Front entranceways with a stone or tile threshold that a dolly can catch on or tip over

We're told that the majority of folks who are living in homes in this area are homeowner-occupied (78%, to be exact).
